More Information About Donating Blood

Massive Need

At a national and local level, the blood bank system is in near-crisis condition from lack of blood donation. On an average day 34,000 units of blood products are needed in the United States. That equates to the use of one unit of blood every two seconds. While up to 80% of the adult population is eligible to donate blood, only 5% will actually donate.

The need for blood is tremendous. It is estimated that 3 out of 4 people will require donated blood at some point in their lifetime. Donated blood and its separated components are critical in saving the lives of thousands of people every week.
