• Ladder Truck - Lititz firemen have named a committee to study the purchase of an important additional piece of fire-fighting equipment here.
The move to buy a modern ladder truck has been urged for the past several years in recommendations submitted by the national underwriters, local firemen emphasized. The type of apparatus recommended will in all probability cost from $20,000 to $30,000.
It is possible negotiations for the purchase may begin as soon as February 24.
Underwriters have emphasized that there are several buildings here too high to be reached by the ladder equipment of the local company. With an era of expansion facing the borough, this situation will become more acute, they stated.
• Walkie-Talkies - Firemen this week completed the purchase of their second walkie-talkie outfit. They will be used in relaying messages and orders from inside a burning building to fire trucks nearby, or back to the firehouse.
Firemen have been walking about the streets, testing this equipment during the past few weeks and have learned that they can keep in touch with the radio equipment at the firehouse from any part of the borough, inside or outside buildings. One of the tests was made inside the Lititz Theatre.
